A lot of people noticed that GingerSass went through a bit of a makeover recently. The wonderful new branding of GingerSass was done by a dear friend of mine, Michelle. Michelle & I first met in 2005? 2006? when I was a tenth grader and she was a senior in high school. We sat next to each other in a Painting & Drawing class, and our artiness blossomed alongside our friendship. Two summers ago, we reconnected and she hooked me up with an internship at the marketing group where she was basically a manager/ graphic designer/ diva extraordinaire. Michelle has easily become one of my best friends, and it only seemed natural to ask Michelle to help make more GingerSass a bit more sassy. After all, she is the woman who introduced me to my love affair with bright colors, zebra print, and The Real Housewives.
I’ve gotten a few questions about if I did the graphic design/ new logo myself so I decided to sit down (and by sit down I mean email since she now lives 6 hours away) with Michelle and ask her a few questions so you all could get to know her a bit better!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am the worst at figuring out what to say about myself hahaha. Well.. I am a graphic designer and artist. I am always looking to learn more about anything and everything. I took a professional makeup course in college which is kind of interesting. I love bright colors. My favorite animals are Octopus, Colossal Squid, Elephants, and Puppies. I live with my boyfriend in Vermont and we just moved up here from New Jersey about 2 months ago. I think that’s the basics.
When did you realize you wanted to be a graphic designer?
I realized in college. I actually started out as an illustration major. I’ve always been very much into art and drawing.. but didn’t want to go completely into the whole “starving artist” atmosphere. I thought I could do well in illustration, but while I was in school I took a Graphic Design Intro course as an elective and I got hooked. Then I realized graphic design was what I really wanted to do. =]
What inspires you when you’re creating art?
I am constantly changing my inspiration. I love to draw from things around me – and things I see and experience. Even from watching television. I really get inspired by foreign cultures and customs, such as the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, indian Mendhi (henna designs) and even science and biology.
If you weren’t a graphic designer, what would you like to be?
I would probably have considered becoming a marine biologist. I am really interested in physics and outer space, but I’m also really interested in the ocean. Even though it’s part of our planet there’s still so much we don’t know about it. And I really love squids and octopus. Octopii? I don’t know the correct pluralism of octopus.
What do you enjoy doing for fun?
Drawing (duh).. I’m also pretty addicted to watching Netflix, listening to new music, and of course looking up random things on the internet.
If you could have one wish, what would it be and why?
Can I wish for more wishes? Probably not. Without getting too “Miss America” on you – I would definitely wish for the world to be restructured as a utopian society. One in which everyone has what they need, there would be no more wars or need for money, there would be more equality and love for all and everyone would have the ability to do what they loved and better themselves.
If you could appear on any reality tv show, what one would it be? Why?
Excellent question!!!! Hmm.. Does Family Feud count? I guess that’s more of a game show, but I am totally awesome at Family Feud. My favorite reality shows to watch are Chopped, Celebrity Apprentice, and Real Housewives of NJ.
Anything else you want to say/ feel readers should know/ etc?
Hmm. Just that graphic design is really awesome and important and it’s also everywhere. Also – never use Comic Sans. Ever.

There you have it, folks. If this interview didn’t convince you to never use Comic Sans and that Michelle is awesome, here’s a fabulous photo of us from last summer dueling before the Harry Potter 7 premiere.
