GingerSass Halloween Costume Contest (and Sandy Relief!)

Yesterday, I sent out a call to my followers to email me pictures of their Halloween costumes.

Now, after reflecting on it, I’m changing my call a bit.

I am inviting you, my followers, to enter my Halloween costume contest/ raffle. Given the circumstances of my home state following Hurricane Sandy, this one’s going to be a little different. Instead of awarding a prize to the raffle winner (because, honestly, I’d be a terrible judge for picking a winner and I don’t want to waste time asking people to vote), the prize will be a donation to the Red Cross and Hurricane Sandy relief in the winner’s name, along with my name.

**YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SUBMIT A COSTUME TO ENTER**

As an added bonus, mainly because my paycheck just went through and I want to give back to those of you who have touched me so much this week, I’ll be putting together a Jersey Girl (or Guy or other self-identified label) gift package for the raffle winner. I’ll send you a package of some of my favorite things from the Garden State, and thank you for being Jersey Strong!

You also get a Jersey-themed prize pack, which includes this hat. I ordered one for me, and one for the winner.

When I posed the question “If I ran a Costume Contest on my blog, & the prize was a donation made to the Red Cross/ Sandy relief in the winner’s name, would people enter?” on Twitter and in the BlogHer Facebook group, the response was overwhelming. Many people DM’d or messaged me saying they’d participate, and I also received quite a few messages asking how people could contribute to the prize.

After being overwhelmed by the responses, I’ve decided to create a raffle to select the prize winner using Rafflecopter.

I will accept raffle entries for 2 weeks (until November 16th). After that date, I will donate whatever has been raised to the Red Cross.

So what are you waiting for? Upload your pics, send them to me, and join in on the Halloween Costume Contest while helping others.

Sometimes you’re a bitchin’ rockstar from Mars, and other times you’re not.

Sometimes you’re a bitchin’ rockstar from Mars, and other times you’re not.

A week or two back, I excitedly shared the news that I was a national finalist in the Verizon Ultimate Insider contest. I received A LOT of votes and support from my friends, family, followers, and even AfterEllen.com! It was pretty exciting, but I don’t like to be positive. Rather, when something good could possibly happen for me, I tend to be extremely pessimistic about it. I downplay the potential of awesomeness so that, in the case of failure, I won’t be disappointed.

Sooo I’d be lying if I told you I was disappointed about not being selected as the Verizon Ultimate Insider!

How could I be disappointed? Seriously. Think about it.

I started GingerSass in March. GingerSass is just over 6 months old. In the past 6 months, I have gained celebrity followers (okay, so Cady McClain follows me, and I’ve gotten a few tweets from the cast of “Private Practice,” but still), my blog comes up whenever anyone Googles “celesbian,” I’ve gotten free goodies because people think I’m awesome, I’ve attended the world’s largest blogging conference for women (where, by the way, big name bloggers recognized me!), I’ve gained a new nickname in real life, my friends introduce me to people as “my friend the blogger who’s basically an internet celebrity,” I’ve gotten paid to perform at poetry gigs, and I was a national finalist in a contest sponsored by Verizon, one of the major cell phone carriers of our country.

Duuuuude.

I’d say 22 has been a pretty good year so far!

While I really do wish I had won a smartphone (I’m still living in the dumbphone era, gasp!), I have no regrets about losing the Verizon Ultimate Insider contest.

I cannot even begin to say how much I appreciate all of the support and love I have received from each and every one of you, whether it be through reading my blog, liking me on Facebook, tweeting with me, or casting all of your votes for the Ultimate Insider Contest. I may not be the Verizon Ultimate Insider, but I win every day with supporters like you. #cuesappymusic

See? Even as I wrote this in the bookroom at school I couldn’t control my love for all of you, and how you make me feel like a princess!

And then there was that one time where everything awesome happened…

This week has been the best week ever.

Remember that fabulous show from VH1? I do.

I met the host, Chuck Nice, when I was a freshman in college.

Seriously, this week has been fantabulous.

I began my student teaching, and it wasn’t a complete disaster. In fact, I’d even venture to say it went pretty well. (I’ll probably post a separate post about that.)

My new job has been going pretty well, and I got my first paycheck today. That led to me grocery shopping like an adult and splurging on 20 yogurts, some sushi, and chicken. Yummmm.

There was a yogurt sale…can you tell???

Finally, what I’ve been waiting to share… why this has been the Best. Week. EVER.

I’m cutting to the chase… I’m one of nine NATIONAL FINALISTS to become Verizon’s next Ultimate Insider.

This whole blogging thing/ having my own website thing is really working out for me, and I found out last night that I’m one of nine (!!) national finalists to be the next Verizon Insider. If I won, I’d get a gig with Verizon through my blog where they’d give me a smart phone and pay me to attend movie premieres, interview celebrities, go to other cool events, and blog about it. I’d really love to win so if you want to vote for me (and share the link) I’d reeeeeeally appreciate it. You can vote as many times as you want by clicking here.

You know what’s even cooler than finding out you’re a finalist in a national contest to be Verizon’s Ultimate Insider?

Showing up in AfterEllen’s Morning Brew by Trish Bendix.

I’ve blogged about AfterEllen before so you know they’re pretty awesome… but this really was the cherry on top of my week.

Want to make me even happier? Seriously, go vote for me to be the next Verizon Ultimate Insider. There’s a snarky essay I wrote you can read, and a hilarious video of me acting like a fool in front of a camera. Plus, ya know, it’s good for the gays if I win. This is sort of like if Rachel Maddow were running for President… if Rachel Maddow were a femme, and a blogger, and instead of President she was running to be an interviewer on E!…

Let me add ginger to your sass and choose me for this fabulous role!

This is what the next Verizon Ultimate Insider could like. Just sayin’.

Being a Facebook creep finally paid off.

So I’m a self-proclaimed Facebook creeper. I used to be a Facebook stalker, but the term “stalker” probably has some legal repercussions. This translates to me being a Facebook addict, and being on Facebook more than I probably should. One of the pages I “like” on Facebook is a local pub, Fox and the Hound. On Friday, they posted a status that popped up in my newsfeed, saying that the first person to send an email to a “Alicia” would win a “VIP Happy Hour Party Starter”… aka 50 wings, 3 pizzas, chips & salsa, and 2 hours of pool. It seemed like a pretty cool deal, plus I love wings, so why not?

Naturally, being the opportunist that I am, as well as being logged into my email, I sent an email probably 45 seconds after they posted.

I won. :)

I made a Facebook event, and on Monday, my friends and I gathered for a bit of fun.

I felt like a bit of an elitist after having a section of the bar and a pool table reserved for me and my friends.

We had a lot of fun playing pool, eating wings, pizza, and chips, and being special.

Another favorite of mine? My dragonberry mojito.

I also had fun whoring my blog out. (C’mon now, I have magnets from BlogHer and you know I want to share them with the world.)

We all had a really fabulous time, and it was really nice to be able to kick back, relax, and have an unexpected night out with my friends. It also felt really awesome to feel like a hot shot for the night…I’m one step closer to being a celesbian. Thanks for putting it together, Alicia! I’m really glad I Facebook creeped on Fox’s page… it was definitely worth it. :)

I should emphasize that I have never used Easy Canvas Prints for a canvas print before. As for Signs on the Cheap, Banners on the Cheap, and Magnets on the Cheap, they sent me 100 magnets to hand out. I received  no monetary compensation for this post.
