First Date is the perfect part of Broadway Week

As a Jersey girl, I’m very fortunate to live so close to New York City. Culture, entertainment, and endless fun is only a short train ride away. So, when I realized Broadway Week coincided with my first week of teaching, it seemed natural to have a Broadway date night with V to unwind.


We settled on seeing First Date, an extremely new show that looked amazing.

The show was hilarious, sassy (of course! ;) ), fun, and filled with an insane amount of talent. From the lighting to the costume design to the cast, everyone rocked the Longacre Theatre. I was really impressed with the attention put to the littlest of details, and the obvious enjoyment felt by the cast as they brought the play to life.

What I also really enjoyed about the play was its relate-ability. During my Junior and Senior years of college I was a serial first dater. I’d just gotten out of a decently long relationship and it seemed as if everyone and their mother was trying to set me up on a first date…or I was going on a bad blind date. The play made me laugh as it listed dates and scenarios I’ve experienced, and then it made me smile as I held V’s hand and recalled our First Date.

First Date is a play meant for anyone with any hope of finding “The One,” or anyone who’s ever experienced a first date. I saw it with my girlfriend, and I could have easily seen it with my mom, my best friends, or even a group of co-workers.

So, if you have the opportunity to do so, go check out this new play! It’s definitely worth your time!!

Oh, and the cast is pretty stellar. They all were signing autographs and posing for pictures after the show.

The cutest part of the impromptu meet and greet? Kate Loprest (Allison/Google Girl/ Reggie’s Mom) saw a girl next to me had the OBCR and couldn’t hide her excitement! The cd’s weren’t supposed to come in for a few weeks but they were being sold at the show today. I stupidly thought I could just download the cd from Amazon when I got home and I didn’t pick up a copy today, but it won’t be on Amazon for another 9 days! I’m really kicking myself for that one!

Here’s a small glimpse of what the experience included.

-GingerSass went to Ginger’s Bar (like you didn’t see that one coming!)

-running into Dani Shay outside of the Hilton where the conference was held and having a discussion about blogging, MySpace, and AfterEllen

-meeting the Lorax

I had an amazing time, and I honestly don’t even know where to begin writing about it!

I love restaurant week.

So it’s currently Restaurant Week in the town where I go to school/ work…which basically means I have the opportunity to eat like a queen on a grad student’s budget.

This translates to awesomeness.

Today I ended up at The Frog and The Peach for lunch with an old friend. I’ve only been there once before a few years back, back when Restaurant Week coincided with the school year. It’s a really high class place with gourmet food so it was a real treat to eat lunch there!

As I waited for my friend to get to the restaurant, I enjoyed a drink at the bar. I got “El Sustantivo” or “The Bootlegger,” which is light and dark rum, orange bitters, Punt E Mes Sweet Vermouth, Coriander, and cinnamon spice all mixed together. It was a little strong, but also sweet. I’m a girl who likes my rum so I enjoyed it.

I like drinking rum by candlelight before lunch, don’t you?

We ended up eating in the garden room, aka patio, which, despite the torrential downpour we had today, was really nice.

For lunch, we got to choose off the special Restaurant Week Menu. (There were two choices for each of the 3 courses.) I got:

Black Truffle Ricotta Gnocchi as an appetizer, which came with Heirloom Tomato, Capers, Parmesan, and Balsamic Brown Butter

A Grilled Hanger Steak with Cajun Ratatouille, Frites, and Mustard Veal Jus

Seasonal Fruit and Berries for dessert

All I can say is holyyyyy smokes.

I love delicious food, elegance, and pretending I’m fancier than I actually am. With restaurant week, I was able to do just that. For $19 (as opposed to the usual $50-75 per person) I was able to feast like a queen.
