has a voice that resonates within
the quivering chambers of my heart
and my eyes are no longer blind to my art.
V surprised me with tickets to see Andrea Gibson perform in Connecticut this weekend. The almost 3 hour drive from Jersey was SO worth it.
The venue, The Space, was pretty awesome.
Nicole Reynolds opened up the show, and she was the perfect combination of absolute adorableness and hilarity.
Andrea’s words– and performance pieces– were so incredibly moving, and I left with a satisfaction in my heart.
Andrea closed with my favorite piece of hers, “The Nutritionist.” (I’m going to try to use that piece with my students. Seriously, look it up.) I was running low on camera battery at that point so I don’t have a video of her moving performance, but I do have a video of her and Nicole performing “The Vinegar Club” together.
Despite the fact that I’ve been writing poetry every day for OctPoWriMo, I’ve been struggling to actually write poetry that matters for me, poetry that is powerful, poetry that is worthy of being turned into a performance. Seeing Andrea Gibson– and Nicole Reynolds– perform truly renewed my sense of why I love performing poetry so much. I started writing new performance pieces in the car ride home, and I cannot wait to get started on adding the latest stories to my voice.
Thanks for a wonderful date night, V! Keep on rockin’ the world, Andrea and Nicole. You both were amazing.
