Tell us about your favourite pet.

1. I love how the prompts are very “British.”

2. Do I even have to answer this?

My dog, Max, or “Mooshkie Man,” is the love of my life. He’s eight years old now, and my little cuddle bug. (He loves to cuddle, especially when he’s bugging me.) He has the fluffiness of a stuffed animal, the personality of a 4 year old boy, and the tendencies of a drag queen. In fact, with his diva-ish actions in life, his love of my hats, his tendency to get into my glitter and sequins, and his unquestionable love of me when I’m singing show tunes, I’m pretty sure he used to be a drag queen in another life.

My family got Mooshkie Man when I was a sophomore in high school. My family was looking at other dogs, but I fell in love with Max and wouldn’t leave his side. It was love at first sight, and he’s been my sidekick ever since.

Max tends to get into trouble a lot, but, in my eyes, he gets away with it because he knows how to play the system. He knows if he sulks and goes hiding in his bed we’ll eventually pity him. He also knows to lay pathetically and stare at the person he annoyed. He’s a real drama queen, and I love him for it. I also love that the only trick he can possibly remember, unless he’s in trouble and has to go lay down, is “shut the door.” I taught him how to shut our¬†refrigerator door when we first got him, and he has progressed to shutting closet doors as well. My dog is small, one of those white, (sometimes) yappy¬†circus dogs. He has to body slam into doors to shut them, and it never ceases to amaze me that this and “dance pretty” are the only tricks he consistently remembers. He’s a funny little fellow, and definitely full of issues not even years of dog therapy could fix.

I’ve taken to appreciate every moment I have with him. We’re both growing older, and I know his years are limited. When I’m at home with him, he’s attached to my hip. I love him dearly, and, other than “Goldie the Goldfish” that we had for a few weeks when I was four, he is my only and favorite pet. My little Mooshkie man is the best thing that’s ever been mine, and nothing will change that he’s my cuddle bug.
