A Room of One’s Own

During BlogHer12, for the first time since May 10th, I experienced one of the most blissful feelings in the world:

I had my own room again.

I stayed in the Wellington Hotel for only one night, and it was absolutely wonderful. I hadn’t planned on staying in a hotel during the conference until a few weeks prior to BlogHer, as I planned on staying with a friend in Brooklyn the entire duration. When it came down to it, I didn’t want to overstay my welcome with that friend, or get to his place super late since he had to work early the next morning, so I splurged for a one night getaway in the city.

The Wellington was wonderful.

Check in was at 3, but I arrived around 12 to drop off my suitcase. They checked me in early AND upgraded me to a room with A KING SIZED BED. For someone who has spent the past 2 years sleeping in a dorm extra-long twin sized bed, and then going home for breaks and sleeping in a twin-sized bed in a room she shares with her teenage sister, this was GLORIOUS.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy annoying my baby sis and sharing a room with her, but it was such a nice, inexplicable feeling to have my own room again. I could come and go as I pleased. If I wanted to go to bed, I didn’t have to worry about bothering her (or her still being up). I could sing as loudly (and badly) as I wanted in the shower. (I can’t do that while at home, unless I want my family teasing me. I sound like a dying cat getting run over by a 18-wheeler when I sing…on a good day.) I GOT A KING SIZED BED TO MYSELF. The pillows were magically perfect. The mattress was bliss. I could flop around like a fish out of water and still barely mess up the sheets. (I usually end up re-tucking in my sheets at least once a night.)

Seriously, the first night of BlogHer12 was BLISS.

(I spent the rest of my weekend staying with a friend and Brooklyn, and his bed was pretty comfy too. But nothing– NOTHING– compares to getting your own king sized bed and hotel room to yourself.)

Also, the hotel I stayed in is apparently where Borat stayed.

Very nice.
